Fish Fry!

Early this morning, my friend Jim and I headed out for a day of fishing.  We started out near Asan Bay in an area that’s really good for bass during late April/early May, but as you can see in the pics below, the weeds are still too thick close to the shore so without a boat (hint hint, Rob) you can’t get to open water.  Plus, there are more nets in the water than I’ve ever seen.

Low Tide

Yesterday after work, I drove out to Idong reservoir to do a little fishing and although the fishing was great, what surprised me was how low the water level is.  I meant to take a lot more pictures than these three but my friend Jim came out and once we started fishing for bluegill, the camera was forgotten.

This is the lowest I’ve ever seen the lake in the years I’ve fished here.  In the above picture, you can see the islands that have popped up across the water. (click on pics to see full-sized images)

This is all that’s left of the cove that I like to fish in during spring and early summer.

For the few of you that are familiar with Idong, you can see just how low the water is.  During early spring, the water is all the way up into the weeds and grass you see in the background.  I’m not sure why the water is as low as it is - the only theory I can come up with is that during the monsoon rains, the authorities were worried about flooding so they released huge amounts of water out of the lake to accommodate a deluge that never materialized.

The Perfect Recipe

Ulchi Focus Lens is over, the weather is gorgeous and I have a three-day weekend.  Take those ingredients, mix them all up, and what do you get?  Fishing, that’s what.  Geez, I’m surprised I even had to tell you that.  All I have to do is square away a few “honey do’s*” which I haven’t been able to get to the last three weeks, and then I’m a dot.  I can’t believe that I’ve only been fishing one time since early July…how sad is that?  Rob (the man with the Jeep) will be here to pick me up around three and hopefully, the bass and bluegill are just as excited about this as we are.

* From the Urban Dictionary: Honey Do’s - Chores assigned by ones mate (usually wife). This list normally includes household chores or errands and typically are assigned at the most innnoportune moments (ie: Sports event, relax time, vacations or days off, snow days, etc..).
