I wish I would have had my Canon EOS with me this morning but all I had was my trusty Canon PowerShot A80. I love being out on this lake before the sun rises…there’s nothing better than sitting there, watching and listening to the world slowly waking up around me.

Ker-splash… I love that sound too
Nice pictures by the way.
Gar,
Actually, there’s not much splashing going on at Idong these days. I’m trying my best to find out what happened to that lake. The bass fishing has been horrible this year, and you’re lucky if you can find a bluegill, period. There are almost no baitfish anywhere, and no carp splashing in the morning or at night. It’s like the lake died over the winter. I left a message over at anglerstown, hoping that one of the locals would read and respond, but so far, no luck. I told Rob to ask Mr. Yum if he’s heard anything, and if I have time I’m going to take my wife with me to that bait store that has the fish tanks outside of it…maybe they’ll shed some light on the subject. I can almost understand the bass propulation being lowered with the pressure that lake is getting, but the bluegill? They were all over the place last year, and so were other baitfish, and you could always see and hear carp splashing in the shallows. Not this year. Pretty depressing, considering how close that lake is to my house.
I can’t remember, but didn’t you post earlier in the year about seeing stuff in the water, is it possible it was an algae bloom?
Some kinds of algae can lead to massive fish kills, especially in the bait fish populations which in turn damages the game fish populations. It can take a few years for a body of water to recover.
Of course, chemical pollutants or disease could also account for it.
I was going to go fishing there a couple of weeks ago until I read one of your posts about how bad the fishing was. Since I was taking some kids, I wanted a place where it would be easy to catch something(bluegill.) I guess that I’ll have to find someplace else.
