Nomad goes fishing, Mr. Frog has a bad day

Like most Saturdays, I got up this morning bright and early and headed out to my favorite lake, even though I was worried that the recent rains had muddied the water and possibly turned off the fish for a few days.  Well, I was right on both counts; the water was somewhat stained (but not as bad as I thought it was going to be) and for the most part, the bass had no interest in what I was throwing at them.  I did catch three small ones, all about the same size, on Chatterbaits and a 4″ black Senko.

After one area didn’t produce, I walked down the bank to some cliffs near the dam (deep water) to see if I could increase my luck.  As I was standing near the cliffs, fishing, I heard a weird sound nearby.  “That sounds sort of like a frog croaking” I thought to myself, and when the noise continued, I walked over to investigate.  Indeed, I was right, but more so than I knew.  Not only was the frog croaking, it was really croaking (as always, click on images to see full-sized pics):

Dawn VI or: Rob fishes without me

Today is my mother-in-law’s birthday and every year, we invite her and some of the in-laws over to our house for dinner and a small celebration.  Even though I wanted to go fishing, I reluctantly promised my wife I’d stay home today so I could help out and be home when the folks started arriving.  Rob, the good buddy that he is, took this as an opportunity to go fishing without me so that he could send me a text message every time he caught a bass just to let me know what I was missing.  And judging from his pictures, I missed out on a heck of a great day.  Rob even got in some dawn pics (click to see full-sized pics):

“Those are real nice” you say, “but did he catch any fish?”  Yep, he sure did.  Check ‘em out:

Who pulled the plug?

I got up early again and headed out to my favorite lake this morning, hoping to have a repeat of last Saturday’s fishing experience.  Much to my surprise, the water level had dropped at least 5 feet since last week which is good and bad; good because I didn’t have to walk the “hill of death” to get to my favorite spots and bad because a sudden drop like that screws up the fishing.  Oh, it’s also bad because if I can get to my favorite spots easily, so can every other fisherman out there who usually wouldn’t come over as far (The solitude is the main reason I fish the areas I fish).  The water wasn’t only low, it was also very murky today for some strange reason.  This lake is usually very clear, and we haven’t had any rains lately so I’m not sure why the water was as muddy as it was today.

At least I did catch a few bass:

Dawn V or: Idong wakes up at last

And the moral of this story is; you’re never too busy to go fishing.  Our landlord was having the linoleum replaced in our kitchen and living room today, which meant that my wife and I had quite a bit of furniture and other stuff to move out of the way in both rooms.  So I really didn’t plan on going fishing today at all, even though I had already moved a bunch of stuff last night.  But I woke up at 3:30 (on a Saturday, no less!) and got on line to see if Rob was also up - and he was, so we said the heck with it and decided to meet at Idong lake, which has been kicking our butts so far this year - until today, that is.  First, let’s get the dawn pics out of the way:

As I said, today was a pretty good morning.  We caught plenty of decent-sized bass and also found the big bluegill that are usually so prevalent in Idong  (if you can find them) and which are a blast to catch with an ultralight outfit.
