I think I’m taking my resolution not to let the weather affect my decision to fish a little too far. Even though it rained pretty good last night and it was still misting this morning, I threw caution to the wind and headed out again. One thing I’ve learned; if it’s windy at the house, then it’s twice as windy out on the river and this morning was no exception. It was cold, wet and windy out there and the river was high but you know what? The bass were tearing it up. The problem, however, was that for whatever reason, I could not land them. For every bass I caught yesterday, I lost two this morning. I had close to twenty bites and I’m not talking about hits in the same spot where I had just lost one, but hits in different areas. I honestly don’t know what the problem was this morning - they would hit the worm, I would set the hook and start reeling them in, and then they would either take me into the reeds or somehow, just get off the hook.
I’m sad to say that this was the only one I managed to land today. Definitely an interesting morning, to say the least.
At least you got out and caught one. Not a bad way to start the day and birthday
What Steve said. At least you got out there. I was up at the same time you were, but I was going to work.
Trust me, I’m not complaining. Once I got to the river and saw and felt what the weather conditions were like, I honestly didn’t expect to catch one single one, much less get all the bites I did get. Like a wise man told me today, the weather probably bothers us humans a lot more than it does the bass
Good point. I bet those bass don’t feel that cold wet rain do they. how was the water clarity? I’d expect it to be pretty dirty for the next few days.
Dave,
The water was actually pretty clear at the location I was fishing. One thing I’ve noticed about that river; the closer you get to the sea wall, the nastier the water gets. I think all the dredging and construction going on near the power lines down that way puts a lot of silt into the water.
LOL Nomad…
Yes, wise man, I think you were right about that. Since I’ve adopted my “don’t let the weather keep me from fishing” philosophy, I’ve caught fish in conditions I didn’t think I would.
I’ve been called a lot of things, but “wise” has never been one until now. lol
lol
