Early Morning Bass, Part 21

Just in case any of you haven’t noticed, it’s hot and humid out there…and if you’re wondering, it doesn’t feel all that much better at 4:30 in the morning smile_tongue, especially when there’s not even a hint of a breeze.

I liked both of the above pictures and couldn’t decide which one to pick so I decided to put both up.  The green algae-scum-stuff is getting really thick in the river, at least close to shore - as the below pics show:

There were two carp fishermen at my favorite spot when I got there (at 4:30 am!!!) and two more showed up later on so the pickings were slim as far as the spots went but I did manage to catch two bass out there:

The one on the left was caught on a 5 inch, black Senko, and the one on the right was caught on a 4 inch, black Senko.

Nice going Nomad, and as always, nice pics too!

Thanks, Rob! I couldn’t really tell but it looks like the algae is only close to the shore…the river looked clear about 20, 30 feet out.

    Great catches Nomad!!

Is that oil on the water surface ??

  4. 4 Nomad

Steve, Nope, that’s that green algae scum I was telling you about earlier.

I’ve never seen as bad as that before….but I don’t normally fish rivers during the summer :???:

That stuff is not limited to the river Steve; it’s in all bodies of water up here.

  7. 7 Nomad

Yep, as Rob and I discovered last Saturday, it’s starting up pretty good at Idong lake as well.

I fished at 5 different lakes yesterday and found this stuff in 3 of the lakes and one of the lakes was really bad, but the fishing was great…..go figure!!

So…we’ll be seeing a post sometime soon?

Actually, I don’t think that stuff bothers the fish much. If anything it provides them with a little more shade…

Yeah I think it bothers us more than the fish, unless it gets real thick and starts going down below the surface…doesn’t it take the oxygen out of the water?

Nomad, I’ll be posting something soon

Rob, I think you are right, I think that the dark water helps to keep it a little cooler. One lake I fished yesterday was really green in color and the water temp was 82* and another lakes yesterday was crystal clear and the water temp was 89* and the 2 lakes were near each other. It also helps us to be able to sneak up on the fish without spooking them !!
