Well this morning was an adventure. First, check out how bad the algae is getting in the river:
And that stuff isn’t only floating on the surface; it’s permeated the water all the way to the bottom and there’s zero visibility now. I tried chatterbaits and spinnerbaits this morning but man oh man, now I remember why I never used lures from shore out there - I lost three chatterbaits and two spinnerbaits, all to getting hung up in the rocks
I did catch a few fish and this was the biggest of the bunch. I hope they open the gates down by the seawall soon so this green crap floats over to China and the river clears up.
That looks like nasty stuff for sure Nomad. If we didn’t know better, I’d say it looked like some kind of spill
It’s great that you can still catch bass in water like that. What was the catching lure(s) today ??
Ack! Expensive morning! I’ve been there and done the same thing though. I thought you were absolutely going to slay them today, especially after yesterday’s EMB report.
Steve,
That bass plus the few dinks I caught were caught on Senkos…I had no hits on the chatterbaits (but get this…yesterday I was using Vibrashocks, today I was using the original chatterbait….hmmmm). I had a nice bass on a chartreuse 1/2 ounce spinnerbait, it jumped out of the water and then went deep and hung me up on something. I could feel the fish tugging but could not get it loose and it was out too deep for me to get to it
Rob,
I honestly think it was the water clarity, which was even worse today than yesterday…do you remember how thick it was where we put the boat in? There were a few spots at the PBA area that were just about as bad this morning. NASTY!!! Reference the lures…considering I almost never used them in the past, it all evens out in the end…lose them over time, or lose them all in one day
