Day on Gosam

My wife and I went to Gosam and rented a boat yesterday.  It was a beautiful day, but once again the fishing was extremely tough going.  All of the ones we caught were very small, and were caught out in deeper water, 33′ to be exact.  Once I realized that they were holding deep I put on a shaky head rig, and although I got numerous bites I couldn’t set the hook on one to save my life.  Either the fish were really small, or I was doing something wrong.  Any pointers?  Yesterday was the first time I tried a shaky head rig so I really have no clue.

Gosam is actually a very beautiful lake, but I’ve never had much luck fishing out there.

That right there says it all, doesn’t it?  LOL

LOL…..at least your wife had a good time

Gosam does look like a nice lake, but there seems to be a lack of cover for the fish, no wonder they were deep.
For the shakey head, what line were you using?? since you were fishing in 33 feet of water, I would use braid with the near zero stretch.

What are those boats like Rob?? are they rigged for bass fishing with motors and fish finders etc??

I was using fluorocarbon Steve. And I thought about that too. There’s probably too much stretch in it for that type of fishing.

They are older wooden boats with oars, but Adoshi will put a trolling motor on for some more cash. I think we paid 40,000 Won for all day, and yes, we had a trolling motor.

    Rob,
I’ve never had much luck at Gosam except for small bass but once you find them they’re usually schooled up. I once caught 18 fish without even moving the boat. There is a spot at the dam, at the left end of the riprap, that had a point with some brush at the end of it. It’s always had fish on it.

Thanks for the tip John. I’m still trying to learn how to use my depth/fish finder as well, and am slowly getting there. I’ve definitely learned that if it’s showing me fish beneath the boat, it’s a good idea to stop and at least investigate. What I really enjoy the most about it though is mapping out the underlying terrain of the river or lake. That’s pretty neat.
