Nomad has graciously given me access to post pics etc. here. Here’s my first attempt, so if I screw it up too badly, I apologize in advance.
Well, any day spent fishing is a good day, however, the fishing itself could have been better on Saturday. It was a bit chilly early, but ended up being great weather. It was somewhat windy at times but overall not bad in that regard either. All that green stuff is gone from the water and it wasn’t too murky. But the fish were really difficult to find! We fished all day and only caught 16, which is actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be for a while. The bite did pick up a bit around 4 p.m. and afterwards, but most of the fish we caught were really small. We caught a couple that went around 1 1/2 pounds but most of the others would have been lucky to break a pound. I threw a little bit of everything at them. Crankbaits weren’t happening at all. I caught one on a tube, one on an in-line spinnerbait, a couple on a jighead worm and the rest came off of dropshot rigs. No one else we talked to on the water was having much luck either. It was good to be out there though and we had a good time. Here’s some pictures, but nothing special really.
I did catch one pig! Well, actually it was a plastic pig(gy bank).

Mike,
Sounds like you had a pretty good day out there, considering we just had a major cold front come through. LOL on the piggy bank, you never know what you’ll bring up out there in that river
Thanks for contributing, hope to see more of your posts in the future.
Was there any money in the piggy
Glad you were able to catch a few Mike….I guess it was a finesse bite that day!!
Nice going Mike. Any day you can get out on the water and catch 16 fish is a damn fine day in my humble opinion.
And LOL on the piggy bank!
Steve,
No money in the pig, but it hit on a red curly tail worm on a jighead if anyone wants to give em a try.
LOL Mike…..I have heard that there are some big plastic golden pigs in the waters down my way, I’ll have to give a red curly tail worm on a jighead a try
Totally off-topic but you know what? When I first started fishing over here, I was killing them at Idong on a blackberry-colored, U-tailed Zoom worm, fished Texas-rigged. Matter of fact, I was doing so good that my friends all went out and bought as many purple worms as they could find but the next year, the bass in that lake wouldn’t touch a purple worm, period. It was downright bizarre. All they would hit were black 5-inch Senkos and we were catching anywhere from 10-20 bass per trip, and the fish were usually in the 2 to 3 pound range. Unfortunately, those days are long gone and now, you can still have the odd good day out there, but Idong has turned into a tough lake to fish. I’d love to get out there in a boat though, just once.
Nomad,
Funny you mention a boat on Idong. I went out there one day a few years ago, set up my boat parked the car and was preparing to launch…actually getting ready to shove off, when I hear some guys yelling. I look around and they are yelling at ME! I check the boat, it’s not sinking…my car isn’t rolling towards the lake…why are they yelling at me? That’s when I understand their gestures that no boats were allowed. Talk about mad! I got out, took the boat apart, packed up and went to Kosam. If I recall correctly, I didn’t have any luck there either. Now that I think about it, I KNOW I didn’t have any luck there because I have only had success at Kosam on one occasion.
You’ve got to show me how to get to that gravel area in the little cove on the other side of Idong.
If memory serves me correctly, I think John “the original” got kicked off of Idong in his boat a couple of years ago as well. I got kicked off of the damn out there once last summer, which I still haven’t figured out because I’ve seen tons of people fishing off of it in the past.
And speaking of getting kicked, you guys are going to get me kicked out of the Gary Yamamoto Fan Club with all of this talk about cheaper Senko-quality baits!!!! Now hush!
Mike,
The weird thing is that I have seen people fishing in what looked like their private boats out there (on non-tournament days). Granted, it’s rare but I have seen it, even took a picture of it once over by the cove.
So there is a way…
Rob,
I think both of us have so much invested in Yamamoto enterprises that by now, we’re surely honorary members.
No doubt Nomad. LOL
I did get kicked off the lake about four years ago but not after I fished for about an hour and catching some nice bass. I had the boat house guys following me around, telling me in Korean to leave. I ignored them but eventually gave in and left. Someone told me, I think it was the Anglerstown webmaster, that you can pay them to let you launch a boat.
